Is the CATWatch safe for dogs?

Yes, the CATWatch is completely safe to use if you have a dog.

One of the main reasons that dog owners are motivated to purchase a cat deterrent is to stop their dog getting severely agitated every time a cat comes into the garden and the CATWatch deals with this problem safely and effectively.

It’s usually the presence of the cats themselves that cause the most agitation to dogs rather than anything you use to keep cats away.

A dog’s normal reaction to a newly-installed CATWatch is to have an inquisitive look and a sniff round (as they do with anything new) and then they tend to move on to something more interesting.

Will the CATWatch affect my indoor cats?

If your cats are permanently based indoors then it’s highly unlikely they’ll be affected by the CatWatch.

The ultrasonic noise emitted from the unit is primarily directed in the direction the device is facing. The most effective positioning of the CatWatch is facing the general area that the intruding cats enter the garden and, in the vast majority of cases, this is pointing away from the house. Double glazing also further reduces any sound that cats can hear from inside the home.

It must be remembered that indoor cats hear lots of noises in their immediate living environment that will be far louder than anything that goes on outside. Ticking clocks, humming refrigerators, phone notifications, cupboards slamming, human conversation, TV and radio noise are all noises that domestic cats hear much more intensely than humans. Any faint noise from outside generally just blends into the background and does not cause any particular disturbance to domestic cats.

If your cats do occasionally go outside then, of course, there will be times when they trigger the CatWatch and hear the full blast of the ultrasonic noises, which may cause them alarm. However, even then, they have the luxury of knowing they can get away from the noise by running back into the house. This is the same principle for the intruding cat – it quickly learns it can get away from the noise simply by leaving the garden.

Yes, the CATWatch is completely safe for use with birds and may even increase their safety in your garden.

What distance does the CATWatch cover?

The CATWatch covers a total area of up to 125 sqm (1350 sqft) and will detect the movement of a cat up to 12m (40ft) away in an arc of 100°.

When setting up the CATWatch, please ensure:

– The sensor on the front of the unit is not obscured by shrubbery, overhanging branches or garden furniture.

– The unit is perpendicular to the ground, not leaning forwards, backwards or over to one side.

– If wall or fence-mounting, the unit should be no higher than 20 – 25cm ( 8 – 10 inches) off the ground.

How long does the CATWatch take to work?

We recommend that all customers use the CATWatch for at least 30 days, as this provides a good amount of time to assess results and train even the most persistent of cats to reduce their visits.

Many cats have a fairly nervous disposition when they are ‘trespassing’ into another garden and will usually quickly be scared off by the noise of the CATWatch. It can take a little longer for more dominant cats to get the message that they’re not welcome, but they will also learn to stay away after repeated encounters with the CATWatch. Indeed, a scientific study by the RSPB concluded that the CATWatch became more effective as time went on, so it’s important to remain patient and keep the unit in place.

It’s important to remember that most domestic cats have the security of being able to run home to food and safety, so they will quickly leave and choose another ‘easy target’ garden once they realise the CATWatch is providing a permanent deterrent.

Automatic consistency is the great strength of the CATWatch. You just set it up and allow it the time to do its job, regardless of whether you’re in or out, day or night and without making any further effort.

PLEASE NOTE – The CATWatch deters cats by using ultrasound at a frequency of 20 – 24 kHz. This means that deaf cats will not be affected by the noise. Congenital deafness affects a high proportion of white cats, especially those with blue eyes.

Can I leave the CATWatch outside all the time?

Yes. The CATWatch is made in Britain and specifically designed to cope with our cold, wet and windy climate, as well as the wild temperature fluctuations that it will naturally experience when sat out in your garden.

The components inside the CATWatch are made from the highest quality materials and are securely sealed in a waterproof resin to ensure the longest possible operating life.

A lot of cheaper ultrasonic deterrents are not made with the wet British weather in mind and are mass-produced (often in China) with low quality internal components. This can significantly shorten the life expectancy of those units.

Of course, in the event of freak weather conditions, such as really heavy rain or snowfall, bringing the CATWatch in for a few hours to dry out before setting it to work again will help prolong its lifespan. You can also give it the occasional clean to remove any build up of dirt or small insects. Like anything, the more you look after it, the longer it will last and continue to deter cats.

How do I power the CATWatch?

The CATWatch can be powered by a 12 Volt Mains Adapter (included) or a 9 Volt battery (not included).

12V MAINS ADAPTER
We recommend you use the mains adapter as it provides a more powerful (and therefore more effective) noise than a 9 Volt battery. It also means the unit will always be on without worry about a battery going flat.

The mains adapter has a 10m (33ft) lead so you can position your CATWatch up to 10m away from a plug socket. We also have 10m extension cables available separately if you need to install your CATWatch over 10m from your available plug socket.

9 VOLT BATTERY
If using a battery, then we recommend using a Duracell Alkaline 9 Volt battery rather than a cheaper brand or a rechargeable one. A Duracell battery will last between 2 – 3 months and the light on the front of the CATWatch will flash to indicate when the battery is getting low. It’s important you change the battery when required as the CATWatch will not have any deterrent effect if the battery is allowed to go flat.

Do you ship the CATWatch to the USA?

No, unfortunately we only ship within the UK and a few select EU countries. However, the closest equivalent ultrasonic cat deterrent available in the USA is the Cleanrth TSAR550 Ultrasonic Repeller [aff].

The TSAR550 operates at a similar frequency to the CATWatch and also comes with a power adapter and cord. It’s supplied by Cleanrth Products LLC, who are a family-owned business based in Arizona.

DELIVERY
We dispatch orders Monday to Friday and packages will be sent using Royal Mail Tracked 48 delivery. We will email you your tracking number to confirm your order has shipped and Royal Mail should give you a delivery window, so you can see approximately what time your order will be delivered.

Packages containing 5 or more CATWatch units will be dispatched via special delivery or a courier such as UPS, Fedex or DHL. We will notify you if this is the case.

NOTIFICATIONS
We send you an email to the email address you provided at the time of the transaction to confirm when your order has been dispatched and your Royal Mail tracking number. This email also contains some useful usage tips to help to set up your CATWatch properly.

Over the 10 days following your order, you may also receive some automated follow-up emails providing further advice on installing your CATWatch, where to put it and how to ensure you get the maximum benefits from it. Experience shows us that sending staggered instructional emails are more likely to be read and absorbed than if we provide all the information at once.

MISSING PACKAGES
The Royal Mail is usually very quick and reliable and we very rarely experience packages going missing.

Occasionally however, packages are not received. We would ask that you allow 10 working days from receipt of your dispatch confirmation email before contacting us, to allow for any processing delays that may have occurred at your local sorting office.

We would also advise you to check with your local parcel collection office to check if delivery has been attempted and returned to your local sorting office. On the whole, Royal Mail do leave attempted delivery notes, however, we have experienced several instances where the delivery slip had been lost or forgotten.
